Wed...macros for fun

Macros?  Yes I spent my afternoon trying to create a macro to create usable data that I exported from my homecare software to excell.  It seems the programmers thought it would be great fun to create a export function into excell that has a report that looks great but no purpose when it comes to data sorting.  The reports cannot be sorted to do what I need them to do.  All I want is a simple report with client name, dates of service, and payment amount so I can project revenue for the next two months or more to but into a projected cash flow budget I created.  One would think such a report would exisit, but no, have to export a report with 99% worth of useless info to excell, then cannot easly create a usefull report with out deleting data.  So I got the great idea to create a macro.  Thing is, have not done so in excell 2007 before.  First go around would not work, until I figured out I had to check the use relative reference box so I could go down 5 cells, copy, go another 5 cells and copy.  I really need to take a class on Visual Basic, would make life much easier.  So after 2 hours, got the info I wanted, then needed to sort; tried a pivot table; would not work, then I accidentally closed the worksheet, and did not have saved.  All Work lost.....ugh...called it a day and went home.

If only we could create a macro for life, let all those simple redundent little things we do every day take care of themselves; of course the hard part is writing the macro.  Could have macro Dave working hard, while leisure Dave goes camping.

Speaking of camping, it is time for a vacation.  A real vacation where work and its issues are left behind, the only problem to work on is not getting lost on a trail, or what to cook for dinner.  I have not been camping in a Long time.  Even longer still is backpacking.  Thinking of planning a 3 to 5 day trip to Mena OK on the Ouachita trail.  I have all the gear, just need to pack under 50 lbs, mostly food, tent, sleep bag, small cooking  stove, the lightweight amazon kindle for some reading, small camera, and i-pod for some tunes.  First need to spend some time getting into shape, climbing up switchbacks is much more fun when one is not huffing all the way up.  Or perhaps I should just back up my truck and head to Dinosaur Valley Park, was lots of fun last time I went.  River to hang out in, trails to hike or bike, and place to put up a tent and rough it.  I bought a small generator to have some electricity if needed, enough for lights and a fan if needed.

Will see......I'll be learning more about writing macros, a little up front investment saves lots of time in the long run.  Anyone into backpacking or camping?  Let me know your favorite respite place to go.
