Time to Move On

After over 150 applications, 5 interviews, two job offers, and two job offer rescissions, and a offer by a local funeral home for "part-time" work to pick up dead bodies, I have taken a hard look at my job search and decided that perhaps a different direction is in order. Home health is out, every administrator job requires a RN as a qualification.  I am not an RN and to become one will take at least 3 years.  So much for 16 years working in the home health industry.  I applied to work at a non-profit, but they require a social worker.  Applied for several accounting positions, but without recent work experience there again is no interest.  So what I am I to do?

I do have 16 years small business experience, am very good at problem solving, know how to handle customers, good at handling employee issues, and have over 10 years experience as a speaker in Toastmasters.  If I cannot find a job, then I must make one for myself.  For many years I have wanted to use my speaking skills in the consulting and training role.  Now that I have spent 6 months purging the past, it is time to move on.  I have the skills, knowledge, and ability to help others!  And I love to do so.

After Toastmasters I found myself talking to another member who is trying to grow his speaking business; I told him all I was learning from the research I have done to date.  He was encouraged by my suggestions and said my ideas were of great help.  If I can help him, why not others?  I can use my mistakes, my success and provide knowledge to others on how to succeed in business.

Will this be easy?  No, will take 3 to 6 months of work to get off the ground with a limited budget.  But if this succeeds then I will be happy doing what I love.  Worst case I fail and back working for peanuts on the farm.  Tricha's parents have a nice barn we can stay in if needed.  No bathroom, but does have a roof and heating for the winter, add porta-potty and we are good to go.  I do expect to succeed.  With Tricha working as a Teacher we will have regular income to count on, and my income to add which will vary month to month.  I'm also looking at applying as a seminar speaker for national companies.  Can work two weeks for them and then two weeks every month for myself.  Upside is a small check, downside is I'm gone 5 days away from my family.

Your help and support is appreciated.  I have received support from Tricha, but my family do not support this at all, common wisdom is get a job, any job, even for $10 an hour.  Only problem is $10 does not pay the rent, even $40K yr does not pay our expenses.  With a seminar company I can clear 6 figures after a year or two, and have time to enjoy life, and pay off all the debts from the AbleCare debacle.

Encouraging words of support and prayers that this venture gets off the ground and succeeds is what I and my family needs.  If you have technical expertise with speaking, consulting, seminar training, or ideas for topics, please let me know!!!

Thanks for your support!!!!
